The Charlevoix Institute of Medical Research, founded in 2002 by Hannah-Maria Jacques, honors Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix (1682-1761), French historian and explorer of New France, and educator at the Collège des Jésuites in Quebec City.

The Charlevoix Institute pursues two primary objectives:

  1. Conduct reviews of current medical research and publish summaries of the reviews as study manuals for students or medical care providers.

  2. Facilitate the transfer of medical and public health information and technology to professional healthcare workers in the Republic of Indonesia. In this vein, the Charlevoix Institute collaborates with the Bangun Indonesia Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education and community welfare in Indonesia.
